Dover Street Market has opened its latest site in Singapore. Located at Block 18 Dempsey Road, the design and creative direction was undertaken by Rei Kawakubo who conceived the original Dover Street Market on London's Dover Street in September 2004 alongside Adrian Joffe of Commes des Garçons.
'I wanted to create a kind of market where various creators from various fields gather together and encounter each other in an ongoing atmosphere of beautiful chaos; the mixing up and coming together of different kindred souls who all share a strong personal vision,' says Kawakubo.
There are now four Dover Street Markets, location in London, Ginza in Tokyo, New York and Singapore, and one franchise operation in China – I.T. Beijing Market.
'As with all human existence, nothing ever stays still, everything is always changing, and so it is that the first outpost of Dover Street Market in Southeast Asia finds itself in Singapore, and for the first time on only one floor, in an old army barrack with the highest ceiling ever seen in any DSM or CDG store,' says Adrian Joffe, president of Dover Street Market International.
'It is a huge honour for DSM International to partner with Club 21 in creating DSM Singapore, which takes up a 1,145 sq m space in lifestyle destination, COMO Dempsey,' continues Joffe.
