'Playground of Wonders’ unveiled for The Shop at Bluebird in Covent Garden

The design of The Shop at Bluebird's new location in the historic Carriage Hall on Covent Garden’s Floral Street has been revealed. Dalziel & Pow is creating an eclectic, whimsical ‘Playground of Wonders’ for shoppers. Opening in Spring 2018, the 1,393 sq m oasis will offer up inspiration, escapism and hidden gems amid spectacular décor, including a triple-height day-lit atrium. Customers can browse two dedicated retail floors and a large restaurant on the upper floor.

The 19th century Grade II-Listed Carriage Hall in a regenerated quarter of Covent Garden presents the ideal home for The Shop at Bluebird’s new London address – following on from its inaugural store on the King’s Road, which for 10 years has been curating unexpected fashion, art and beauty finds. The Floral Street building has been recently converted from office use to create a unique and impressive retail space.

Dalziel & Pow drew on the rich heritage of the Carriage House, embracing the original architecture, archways and beams. Elements representing the building’s Victorian architecture have been boldly interwoven with the Art Deco style of the King’s Road venue, including draped curtains, rich velvet textures and ornate patterning alongside geometric shapes and sweeping curves.

Given the understated, subtle design of the facade, by contrast the interior makes a dramatic impact. Capturing the creative, free-spirited essence of the brand, specially commissioned artworks meet antique found furniture and lush greenery for a warm, welcoming and quirky effect. In contrast to traditional luxury retail experiences, this store is designed to offers contemporary, democratic luxury, an open, inviting, generous and engaging experience.

Jigsaw will relocate its existing Long Acre store into Carriage Hall to complete the offer.
