Project: Mary's Living & Giving Shop

Design: SFD
Opening date: February 2017
Store size: Undisclosed

Mary Portas' partnership with Save The Children continues with the opening of Mary's Living & Giving Shop in Kew. The store will sell new and used items donated by the public and celebrities. With a request to pay tribute to the local area, sfd created the retail space using Kew Gardens' flora-filled glass house as an obvious but incontestable starting point.

The shopfront design is inspired by the Palm House of the famous botanical gardens, with an applied artwork framing the mannequins and views into the store.

References can be found subtly throughout, with terrariums, pressed flower motifs and nature-inspired fittings.

Local illustrator Hannah Rampley was commissioned to create the backdrop to the cash desk area, with further illustrations placed throughout the shop on Kew’s busy Royal Parade, near the station. These graphic and creative additions are perfectly married with the requirements of a functional and productive retail space, maximising the customer experience and potential income for the charity.

The finished project was well received by Save The Children and the local customers, and Mary Portas said that it could be the 'best one yet'.
